South Indian History Congress was founded at a conclave of historians at the School of Historical Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai - 625021, on 2nd December 1978 with Prof. K.K.Pillay as first President and Prof. K.Rajayyan as founder General Secretary. It was registered under the Societies Act at Madurai in 1979 with Reg.No.32/1979. The first inaugural conference of this Congress was held at Madurai Kamaraj University Campus in February 1980. Thereafter annual sessions of the Congress were held at different universities and colleges of South India.
Office
The Central Office of the said Congress shall be located at School of Historical Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The working hours of the office are from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. on all working days.
Objectives
  1. to promote historical studies on South India,
  2. to co-ordinate research on historical trends in South India with sister organizations,
  3. to serve as forum for exchange of views through annual sessions and special conferences,
  4. to help in the preservation of historical monuments, relics and records,
  5. to honour historians, who made substantial contributions to scholarship on South India,
  6. to receive and administer funds for the implementation of the above said objectives
Membership and Subscription
  1. As a national forum, the Congress admits as members those who are interested in historical studies on South India, irrespective of any regional consideration. Members of the following categories are admitted:
  2. Annual Membership   paying Rs. 600 /- as subscription fee.
  3. Life Membership   paying Rs. 5000 /- as subscription fee.
  4. Institutional Membership   paying Rs. 10000 /- as subscription fee.
  5. Patron Membership   paying Rs. 10000 /- as subscription fee.
  6. Donor   paying Rs. 10000 /- as subscription fee.
  7. Year is reckoned with the calendar year, i.e. January to December.
  8. Persons seeking membership are to apply in writing or in prescribed form to the Treasurer and send the subscription to him, subject to approval of admission by the Secretary.
